German Christmas Marketplace

HUGE thanks to all involved in
making this year's our biggest
and best yet!!
Where would we be without all our fabulous volunteers who make
this event happen. And the generosity of our sponsors was
overwhelming! From Belle Springs, whose buildings made
our vendors warm and dry, not to mention they were absolutely
adorable!! To the many others involved, we say THANK YOU.

Here are a few first photos of this year's market.
Check back for more soon!!

Folks lined up to come into the Christmas Market main area.

Photo taken from upper floor of Museum Shop building, looking at food tents.

Again, photo taken from upper floor of Museum Shop, looking back toward Christmas
Market. The vendors were in wonderful shed buildings and in the rear lot was a large
tent with more crafters, and the entertainment stage.

The lines were steady for the horse drawn buggy rides!! They're always great fun!!

Folks really enjoyed watching the puppet shows put on by
Puppen Meister Marionette Circus from South Williamsport

And of course, all day the Market goers could take a break from the food, fun and entertainment,
to explore the rest of Harmony! Folks enjoyed checking out and shopping not only in the Market
itself, but also the Museum Shop, The Exchange at Harmony, Frannie's Mercantile, Otto & Gerts
(where they could also grab a bite to eat) and dining at The Harmony Inn.

Christmas preparation and tradition!

WeihnachtMarkt regular Little Germany of Berks County, Pa., brings authentic German gift items that include toys, Christmas ornaments, nutcrackers, smokers (incense burners in the form of whimsical carved and painted wood figures), beer steins, music, cook books, foods and chocolates. Outstanding artisans from across the region, many also demonstrating their crafts, offer quality goods as diverse as 18th century maps and frontier powder horn scrimshaw, fraktur (illuminated texts often commemorating births and baptisms), scherenschnitten (cut paper artwork), tin ware, iron goods, treen (wooden ware), German Belsnickles (Santas), folk art, paintings and drawings, dolls, jewelry, pottery, decorative wood boxes, cuckoo clocks, beeswax candles and ornaments, marbleized paper, birdhouses, quilts, woven goods, stained glass, art glass, furniture, ornaments, greeting cards, soaps, Christmas cookies and gingerbread.

Children will enjoy meeting Father Christmas and doing pioneer crafts at the museum's 19th century Ziegler log house. The whole family will be attracted to puppet shows presented by Puppen Meister Marionette Circus from South Williamsport, the German songs and dances of Pittsburgh's Teutonia Mannerchor, and performances by dulcimer players, fiddlers and other musicians. A horse-drawn wagon provides fun transportation through town, and visitors are invited to join in singing Christmas carols when an outdoor Christmas tree is lighted early Saturday evening.

Traditional German foods and refreshments will be available, including soup, bratwurst and sauerbraten sandwiches, potato pancakes, German potato salad, and home baked pie. Among refreshments are funnel cake, home made root beer, mulled cider and the museum’s signature Harmony Society ginger cookies.

Butler County's own Rustic Acres and Winfield wineries will offer wine tastings in the huge, 200-year-old wine cellar under the museum building.
